Every time you turn on your computer, you're hit with perhaps five or ten home business opportunities in your email box or junk mail. They come at you from everywhere it seems. Are there any worth checking out? Before you click that link, consider why you would want to work at home.

Is it because you hate your current job? Is it because you need a job? Is it because you need money to pay your mounting bills? Is it to stop your wife or husband's nagging at you that there never is enough money to do what you want? Try to narrow down the reason you would consider working online or at home.

After you've done that, decide if you need money fast, or if you want to build your business over six months to three years. This is important because your answer to these questions will determine what type of work at home opportunity you should be looking into. Is it possible to earn money quickly on the internet? The short answer is 'yes'. There are two main choices:

1. Sell wholesale products on eBay and other auction sites. This is possible if you have access to wholesalers - preferably drop-shippers - who you can pass your orders to and who will package and ship it to your customer for you. After all, you don't want to get caught buying inventory you can't sell and then have to store it in your home. If you have access to liquidated merchandise or products you create yourself or that you can get for virtually nothing and that have a little buying interest, then do that. In any case, you will need products to sell on eBay.

To get on eBay, you need to create an account there, set up a paypal account to accept or make payments and learn how to price your products, describe them and list them on eBay with auctions or 'Buy It Now' options. You will need to spend your time studying as much as you can about how to do it. It's all on their website and it's all free and with a little study, it's really not that hard to do. Alternatively, you could choose from the many eBay eBooks available. Just be sure to choose one that is up-to-date.

After you get started with eBay, make sure to collect your customers' names and email addresses and store them in a file somewhere on your hard disk. First name and email address are enough to start. This list, over time, will earn more money for you and allow you to set up a newsletter and give you the ability to resell your customers if you send them a friendly email once in awhile. Stay in contact somehow. One of the best ways is to subscribe to an autoresponder. There are only two worth considering:

 

Both of these two email systems are the best you will find on the internet. Both will allow you to set up a series of email letters or newsletters that aren't considered junk mail or spam. They both follow the Can Spam rules outlined by the US Federal Government and should be an essential part of your work at home business - regardless of what it is.

2. Sell affiliate products via google adwords - PPC (Pay per Click):

This is one of the fastest ways of earning money on the internet. If you are properly set up, you could be earning money in a single day. Beware though. There is much to learn and much to do before you can properly set up to earn money with Google Adwords and affiliate products. Never just jump in and start spending money on Google Adwords. Those who properly plan and set up their system can get a selling campaign online very quickly thereafter. It is however, a reliable way of making anywhere from $100 to $1,000 and up per day online quickly.

The question really is: Are you willing to get the training necessary to be able to use the system? or at least spend all your free time reading and watching online videos about how to do it?

If so, then remember, it's not free and you must be 'committed'. By 'committed', I mean you must be willing to buy your own two to three-year domain names for each product you sell ($10 per year each); be willing to buy a reliable hosting service ($20-25 per month)to host your domain names; join and participate in a reputable affiliate marketing forum like the Gorilla marketing forum or join a more expensive but excellent group like the Stompernet Group; be willing to pay for and attend one or more internet marketing conferences to network with other internet affiliate marketers. There are many excellent conferences and it always pays off. Bring your business card.

Those are the basics and still you will need to buy or obtain tracking software and be prepared to go through an intensive learning period of six to nine months before you go full speed ahead.

Work at home opportunities often require that much more be done before you actually begin earning money. Those who jump in thoughtlessly or carelessly usually lose their money and end up wandering around the internet trying out whatever new scheme is put before them.
